Ned Carpenter Hammitt

Ned Carpenter Hammitt, age 78, of Denver, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at his home on February 2nd, 2026.

Ned was born to the late Clyde R. Hammitt and Alice Dorothy Carpenter Hammitt and was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Travis “Bud” Hammitt, and his sister, Frances Hammitt Heavner.

He lived a life defined by service, dedication, and love for his family. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and later continued his service to the community as a police officer with the Cherryville Police Department.

Ned retired after 30 years of dedicated service with Carolina Freight.

Above all, Ned was a family man. He was a devoted husband to Theresa P. Hammitt of Denver, NC, and a loving father to Stephanie M. Saylor (Paul) of Knoxville, TN, and Heather H. Mullinax (Robert) of Dallas, NC. Ned’s greatest joy was being a grandfather to Joshua Saylor, Aleigha Mullinax, and Benjamin Mullinax, who brought him immense pride and happiness.

Visitation will be held on Monday, February 9, 2026, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Good Samaritan Funeral Home.

A memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel officiated by Pastor Eric Chaney. 

A Military service with Military Honors rendered by the United States Army will be held at 3:00 p.m. at Denver Community Cemetery, concluding with a final prayer.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the LUV Store in Denver, NC, an organization dedicated to helping and supporting veterans.

Ned will be remembered for his deep love for his family. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
