Howard Manley Lane

Howard Manley Lane age 64 passed away October 14, 2022

He retired from Duke Energy as a Lead Engineering Technologist after a 43 year career.

He was a great friend and neighbor who would stop whatever he was doing to help you. He was the keeper of all tools.

But more than anything, he loved to ride his Harleys and spent lots of time not only tinkering with, but actually building a number of motorcycles.

Howard is preceded in death by his parents Howard and Frances Lane. He is survived by his children Shea (Mike), Justin (Abby) and Marcus (Abby), granddaughter Penny Lane, sister Susan, brother Tommy (Donna) and loving partner and best friend Lisa Southwick.

Family will receive family and friends on Sunday October 23, 2022 from 2-4PM at The Good Samaritan Funeral Home 3362 North Highway 16 Denver, NC 28037. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday, October 24, 2022 starting at 5:00PM. There will be an opportunity for viewing immediately following the service until 7:00PM.

In lieu of flowers, and to honor Howard’s love of dogs, please donate to your local Humane Society.

In the brief 2 years that we have known Howard as a neighbor, we were honored to also call him a friend. He lived his life full of joy and happiness, always giving selflessly to others. We will miss his friendship and his hearty laugh.

Howard was very special to everyone who knew him. He knew he was blessed and loved by all. “Those we love don’t go away; they walk beside us in our hearts & memories.” May the sorrow you feel in your hearts lighten by the love that surrounds you.

Howard was the first neighbor to connect with us when we moved into Westport. He was gracious in sharing a boat that he wasn’t using since we didn’t have a boat on the dock yet. Howard never hesitated to help out, and was a bedrock of our little corner of the world. He was such an incredible part of Westport, and he will be missed.💜 Ride on into the sunset, Neighbor!

Was very saddened to here about Howard. We worked together years ago at Duke.
One of the memories I remember is when my wife and I lived on Commonwealth Ave we had 2 crazy dogs. and they went across the road through the woods and were over at South 21, I’m guessing scavenging for scraps and Howard and Lisa were there having dinner and they recognized our dogs, put them in the back seat of his Volkswagen, which filled up the back seat, big dogs, and brought them back to us. I Remember they pulled up in our driveway and Howard asked if these were our dogs and that they were at South 21.
    We laughed so hard!
I remember he was a great guy.
Praying that all his family will find peace and Gods grace though the difficult times.
