Virginia Swavely

Virginia (Treichler) (Heffner) Swavely, 87, of Denver, NC passed peacefully to her heavenly home, December 22, 2020.

Virginia was born in Barto, PA to the late Newton E. and Mabel (Hartline) Treichler. She was the widow of Carl N Heffner (died in 1984) and William “Roger” Swavely.(died in 2002).

She graduated from Kutztown University in PA with a Bachelors degree in Education and received her Masters in Education from Lehigh University. She taught in the Boyertown Area School District until her retirement in 1988. She taught elementary students and eventually became a reading specialist at Boyertown Jr High West.

Virginia is survived by her adopted daughter Nancy Crates (Britton). step-son, Mark Swavely, granddaughters, Taylor Crates and Peyton Crates, step grandchildren and beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Clyde Treichler, and sisters, Kathryn Longacre and Sadie Bittenbender, all of Pa.

Virginia dedicated her life to the service of others. First as a teacher and later as a volunteer for local food banks and as a school volunteer in both Leo, IN and Aurora, IL. She loved her family, but most especially her grandchildren, Taylor and Peyton. They were the light of her life and she spent countless hours reading to them as children and later supporting them in school and activities. “Mom Mom” may not be here physically but her spirit will always be guiding them.

The family will hold a private memorial at a later date and burial will be at Huff’s Union Church.
