Sharon Spires Sikes

Sharon Spires Sikes passed peacefully Tuesday, August 5th, in her home with her loving husband of 54 years, Lindy Lee, by her side.  Theirs was a marriage which was the example of unconditional and undeniable love. She was “Mom” to Shelton and his wife Shelly and “Nana” to her grandson, Chance – wife Kenzie Kelly, and granddaughter, Brooklyn – husband Jorden Burrows. She was the center of the universe for her 3 great-grandsons – Joseph, Xavier, and Sawyer.

Born in Salisbury, NC on May 26, 1950, to the late Clarence Earl and Fannie Owen Spires, she is survived by her family above and her brothers, Chris Spires and Bobby Spires (Wendy), sister, Sunny Dixon, sister-in-law Sandy Randall (Mark), brother-in-law, Gary Clark and countless nieces and nephews.  She also had an extended family of friends that she loved and considered her chosen family.

We wanted to let the world know just how amazing Sharon was… She was a debutante in the days of ballgowns, white gloves and flowers and a graduate of Brevard College. She brought a light to many students, teachers, and staff as the office administrator for area elementary schools – Triangle, Rock Springs, and Catawba Springs.  She retired from CSES after over 30 years. She was a true believer in Angel Tree ministries and John Hancock kids.  She loved her Carolina Panthers, the Charlotte Hornets and, of course, the Clemson Tigers! She was decorator extraordinaire and behind the scenes magician providing the sparkle to many dental conference meetings from NCDLA and SEDLA. She could weave a castle tapestry on a shoestring budget. With her full attic in which many VBS and birthday celebrations benefited from her motley collections over the years – everything imaginable, she was prepared for any event.  Her family laughingly called it “Nanas Attic.”  Perfect, heartfelt gifts were stored for everyone she loved.  So yes, if you were around our family for any length of time, you probably benefited from Nana’s giving heart one way or another, with or without knowing her.

She was our rock; always supporting us in any situation.  We were humbled by her saying “you got this” or “I know you can do it” or a favorite “you’re a good man, Charlie Brown.” We were always taught by her to ”take care of others first and always do your best, the rest will follow along”.

She was a 48 year survivor and thriver of breast cancer. Recently, she succumbed to the ill effects of the treatment, and her beautiful self was just too tired to fight any longer.

Our beloved Nana, you were a fighter, a warrior, and the fiercest person we know. Smart, beautiful, witty, and intimidating, you were the total package. (Seriously, the most gorgeous blue eyes this side of Heaven.)  Go rest high on that mountain, you’ve more than earned it. No more hurt and no more pain. We will always love you more, more, mostest.

The family wishes to thank to all the prayer warriors and friends for the calls, texts, visits, or just the “hey I have a friend can you pray for them” requests made on her behalf.

The family will received friends Sunday, August 10th 5:00 – 7:00pm at Good Samaritan on Hwy 16 Denver.

I absolutely loved and admired Sister Sharon. Her devotion to family was astounding and when Sharon and Sunny teamed up, watch out world, they were unstoppable. I always tried seeing her on her visits to Virginia. The world is not as bright, but I imagine heaven is in for some remodeling and will be organized in short order. The love shared by Lindy and Sharon was so evident by their gestures, smiles, and laughter. My heartfelt sympathy to her family, friends, and neighbors.

    Blessings
