Reverend Edward Lee Biggers

Reverend Edward Lee Biggers passed away peacefully on Friday, April 10, 2026, at his home, surrounded by friends and family in a precious and loving gathering. Ed went home gracefully, ready to rest at the feet of Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior.

Ed will always be remembered as a devoted son, devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, great-grandfather, cousin, pastor, mentor, neighbor, coworker, and friend to more people than can be counted. His life was a testament to faith, service, and compassion, and he touched countless hearts throughout his ministry.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Penny; his children, Lizzie Moon, Kym Estes (Lynn), Stephanie Swirble-Mathis (Will), Ian Camp (Amber), and Justin Camp (Isha).

He was a proud and loving grandfather to Olivia Willard-Hughes (Lee), Lily, Hunter, Aria, Liam, Noah, and Aaliyah, and a great-grandfather to Colton, all of whom he cherished deeply. He found great joy in spending time with his family, as well as with Penny’s family and their extended relatives.

Ed earned degrees from Pfeiffer College and Emory University, where he received his Master of Divinity in 1976, preparing him for a lifetime of faithful ministry. Over the years, he faithfully served congregations in twelve communities across North Carolina and Georgia, including Richfield and New Mt. Tabor in Richfield; Maple Avenue in Marietta, Georgia; First United Methodist Church in Asheboro; Badin; Summerfield; Pine Grove in Winston-Salem; First United Methodist Church in Marion; First United Methodist Church in Mocksville; Sedge Garden; Memorial in Thomasville; and Myers Memorial in Gastonia, where he retired as an Elder in the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church.

His kindness, wisdom, and unwavering faith will be remembered by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Cyiable Biggers. Ed was born and raised in Monroe, North Carolina, where he began a life rooted in faith and service.

Ed was also an avid motorcycle rider who loved riding with friends, and a devoted animal lover who will be fondly remembered by his beloved pets, Lucy and Toni.

 

A visitation will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2026 at 3:00 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life and Love at 4:00 p.m., at Myers Memorial United Methodist Church, 301 S. New Hope Road, Gastonia, North Carolina 28054.

    Kym, Becky and I were so sorry to hear about your dad’s passing. The last time we saw him was at your wedding in Asheville at the Biltmore Estate. He was always so kind and friendly to me whenever our paths crossed. You and the family are in our prayers.
