Boyce Fincher Coble
June 28,1923 – September 9, 2014

DURHAM — A veteran of WWII, Mr. Coble was born June 28th, 1923 in Charlotte, NC, To Israel and Geneva Coble. He attended Davidson College and joined the Army Air Corps in January 1943. As a Staff Sergeant, he served in France, Germany and Britain, where he met his wife Joan.
Boyce and Joan were married in the small English town of Newberry on September 9, 1944. The entire town turned out to watch the wedding. Over 1000 people came to share in the happy occasion and to have a few short hours away from the war. Boyce and Joan were together over 60 years and he passed away on the date of their wedding anniversary.

After the war Boyce went to work in various positions with the Piedmont and Northern Railroad and continued his Railroad career at the Durham and Southern as Treasurer and General Auditor. The D&S was acquired by CSX and he retired from there in 1985 after 39 years of service to the railroads.

He was one of the original members of Aldersgate Methodist Church where he served in many capacities over the years.
Boyce is survived by his son Michael and his sister Eugenia Kendall as well as his granddaughter Faith Michelle Bryant, her husband Lieutenant Commander Jeremy Bryant and their son Camden.

A funeral service will be held at graveside in Forest Lawn West Cemetery, at 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte, NC at 3:00pm Saturday September 13th.
The family request in lieu of flowers a donation to Aldersgate Methodist Church, 1320 Umstead Rd, Durham, NC 27712, would be appreciated.
