Kathy Kennedy Richards, 83, passed away on Sunday July 5, 2026 at her home in Lincolnton, NC. She was born in Maiden, NC on December 6, 1942. She was the daughter of the late Dewey Lee and Odie Leona Sherrill Kennedy.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother, family member and friend. She had a beautiful gift for creating with her hands and her heart. A talented folk artist, she found joy in pottery, drawing, sewing, beadwork making bracelets, and handmade cremations. She could turn the simplest materials into something meaningful and special. She left behind pieces that reflected her creativity and love.
Besides her parents, Kathy is preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years Bill (Joe) Junior Richards of Lincolnton, NC; her brothers Ray D. Kennedy of Houston, TX, David W. Kennedy (Ruth) of Maiden, NC; sisters Louise K. Johnson of Newton, NC, Ruth K. Drum (Cletus) of Maiden, NC; and her loving pet companion Daisy who faithfully laid with her.
Kathy is survived by her daughters Susan A. Richards of Lincolnton, NC, Donna J. Richards of Lincolnton, NC, and Nancy R. Ball (Charlie) of Broadway, NC all who loved and cared for her; 4 grandchildren Christopher Nash(Sara) of Spruce Pine, NC, Jamaica Hayes of Lincolnton, NC, Ronnie L. Beard II (Sarannah) of Vale, NC, Brittany Beard of Lillington, NC; 7 great grandchildren Marley Nash, Avery Nash, Grayson Beard, Abigail Beard, Lane Beard, Brinnleigh Beard, and Kaiden Beard; sister in law Inez Rudasill(Buster); and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 12, 2026 from 2:00PM to 3:00 PM at The Good Samaritan Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 3:00PM. Officiating is Pastor Luke Johnson of Highland Drive Free Will Baptist Church.
