Barbara Ann Bailey, born March 10, 1934, to Walter and Carlie Smith, passed away on July 6, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. One of seven children, Barbara cherished the deep bond she shared with her siblings and the close‑knit family who looked after one another through every season of life. Though she grew up on a farm, she quickly learned that farm work was not her calling.
While working at Dixie Furniture Company, Barbara met the love of her life, Billy Eugene “Bill” Bailey. The two were married in 1953 and built a life defined by devotion, laughter, and unwavering commitment. On June 20, 2026, they celebrated an extraordinary 73 years of marriage.
Barbara was a wonderful mother to her two children, Michael Eugene and Terri Lynn. Her heart expanded even further when she became “Gran,” a title she embraced with joy and pride. She doted on her grandchildren and their spouses—and later her great-grandchildren—spoiling them in all the best ways. Whether she was keeping their favorite foods stocked or frying up a perfect bologna sandwich, Barbara always put the needs of others above her own and was an example of strength, fortitude, and tenacity, even till the end of her life.
She was fiercely devoted to her family, her love was practical, protective, and endlessly generous.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, Walter McKinley Smith and Carlie Sylvania Matthews Smith; her siblings Van D. Smith, Matthew Smith, Cora Lee Palmer, Lorell Myers, Betty Bates, and Billy Smith; and her son, Michael Eugene Bailey.
She leaves behind her husband of 73 years, Bill Bailey; her daughter Terri Pruett (Bruce); her daughter‑in‑law Alison Bailey; her grandchildren Ian Bailey, Beverly Irvin (Chris), Whitney Pruett (James Faber), Patrick Bailey; and her great‑grandchildren Jacob Irvin, Cole Bailey, and Sarah Irvin.
Barbara’s legacy is one of devotion, kindness, and steadfast love. Her family will forever carry her memory in their hearts.
