Mark William Bangs Sr.

Mark William Bangs Sr., age 72, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2026, at the Levine and Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville, North Carolina, where he was compassionately and graciously cared for in his final days. He was born on April 26, 1953, and lived a life defined by integrity, dedication, humor, and deep love for his family.

Mark was the beloved father of Tara Thomas and Mark Bangs Jr., and the proud and devoted grandfather of his cherished and only granddaughter, Jayd, who brought immeasurable joy and pride to his life. He is also survived by his brother, George Bangs, and sisters, Cathy Griesinger and Deborah Thompson. Mark was preceded in death by his loving wife, Donna Bangs, and his parents, Bolton and Patsy Bangs.

Mark graduated from Portland High School in Portland, Connecticut, in 1971. Following graduation, he began a successful career in packaging machine management and repair in Connecticut, where he worked for over two decades. His strong mechanical aptitude, logical thinking, and problem-solving skills made him highly respected in his field. In 1993, Mark made the life-changing decision to move to North Carolina, where he transitioned into a new career in real estate.

Mark went on to build a successful and respected 32-year career as a real estate agent and broker in Denver, North Carolina, most recently with Lake Norman Realty. He earned a reputation for his honesty, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to putting people before profit. His clients valued him not only for his knowledge and expertise, but for the trust and genuine care he showed to everyone he served.

He had a deep love for Lake Norman and found great joy in property management, construction, and real estate development. Mark was a natural logical thinker who enjoyed understanding how things worked and took pride in conversations about building, development, and mechanical systems. His background in mechanical repair and assembly line systems carried into his passion for construction and development throughout his life.

Mark also embraced life with personality and fun. In his younger years, he was known as a talented karaoke singer, with his favorite song to perform being “After the Lovin’” by Engelbert Humperdinck. Those who knew him will always remember his warm presence, his sense of humor, and especially his signature “thumbs up” gesture — a simple but powerful symbol of encouragement, strength, and optimism that he continued to share even in his final days, reminding his loved ones that everything would be okay.

Above all, Mark will be remembered as a good man — kind, dependable, hardworking, patriotic, and deeply loved by his family, friends, clients, and community. His legacy lives on through the values he instilled and the love he shared, especially with his beloved granddaughter Jayd, who held a very special place in his heart.

All services will be held privately by the family.
