Wilbur Larry “Dub” Mayes passed away on Sunday November 16, 2025. He was born on July 4, 1946, to late Leo Leon Mayes and Ola Elizabeth Gordon in Marion, KY.
Dub graduated from Rock Springs Class of 1964. He worked as a welder for Merita Bakery in Charlotte, North Carolina for many years.
He is survived by his former wife Alice “Faye” Fisher Pace and their children. His son Larry Waye Mayes(Dana Duncan Mayes); his daughters Tonya Mayes Soles(Rick Soles) and Kelly Mayes Laney(Sheree Laney); 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. His brother Floyed Wayne Mayes(Carolyn Den Mayes); sisters Barbara Sue Avant(Jimmy Avant), Charlene “Kay” Settlemyre and Ella Bernice Poteat.
Besides his parents, Dub is preceded in death by his grandmother Alma Smeltzer Rainwater; and his brothers James Michael “Mickey” Gordon and Charles “Ray” Gordon.
Daddy loved his family, hunting and fishing. Oww the stories he would tell us! There was nothing he could not do. Our Daddy “Dub” will be greatly missed. He was an amazing father, brother, and friend to many. He was and always will be our everything.
Gone from our sight but never from our hearts.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, from 1:00PM to 1:45PM at Highland Drive Freewill Baptist Church; 2810 Highland Drive Lincolnton, NC 28092. A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 2:00PM.
