Mrs. Gail Patricia Roux, of Denver, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at her home on October 14, 2026.
Born May 13, 1936, in Kingston, New York, Gail was the daughter of William Harry Dugan and Aurelia Emma Dugan. On December 1, 1956, she married the love of her life, Raymond Donat Roux. Together, they lovingly raised four sons.
Gail and Ray’s story began with a blind date when Gail was 15 years old. Ray had been asked to find a date for a school May Day event and chose Gail from the school choir—“the fourth girl in the first row.” Little did he know that Gail had already harbored a quiet crush on him, one she had not shared with anyone. From that day forward, they were inseparable. They shared 56 years of marriage before Ray’s passing in 2014.
Gail deeply loved her Catholic faith and held a special devotion to the Holy Eucharist and the Blessed Mother. She was especially devoted to Our Lady of Fatima and made four pilgrimages to Fatima.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Raymond; and her brothers, Michael and Richard. She is survived by her sisters, Maureen and Ann; her sons: Donat Roux and his wife, Amy, of Goldsboro, North Carolina; Michael Roux and his wife, Ginny, of Rock Hill, South Carolina; Fr. Christopher Roux of Denver, North Carolina; and David Roux and his wife, Joycelyn, of Warner Robins, Georgia.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Brandon, Jessica, Samantha, Cameron, Emma Claire, Lacie, Taylor, Jeremiah, and Nicholas; and her great-grandchildren, JaLynn, Liam, River, Haven, Isaiah, and Kennedy.
A vigil service will be held on Friday, October 23, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. at the Cathedral of Saint Patrick, 1621 Dilworth Road East, Charlotte, North Carolina. Gail’s body will be received at the Cathedral, followed by a vigil of prayer and the Rosary. A time for prayer and visitation will follow the Rosary until 9:00 p.m.
A vigil guard will be maintained at the Cathedral from 9:00 p.m. Friday until 9:00 a.m. Saturday. A sign-up follows for those who wish to participate in the vigil guard. https://www.signupgenius.com/
Visitation will resume on Saturday, October 24, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 a.m., offered by Fr. Christopher Roux. A reception will follow in the Great Hall at Saint Patrick’s. Interment will take place following the reception at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Cemetery in Salisbury, North Carolina.
