Russell Abraham Feingold passed away on August 20, 2026, at his home in Denver, North Carolina. Russ called the shores of Lake Norman home since November 2022, when he moved from Pittsburgh, PA, to enjoy retirement by the water.
He was born on May 30, 1951, in Flushing, NY, a son of the late Saul and Helen (nee Pivetz) Feingold. Russ was a lifelong learner and attended Stuyvesant High School, Washington University in St. Louis, and the Polytechnic Institute of New York University. Later, as he established himself as a respected utility and energy management consultant, he shared his expertise with students as a lecturer at the University of Chicago and University of Wisconsin.
His career took him to nearly every state in the country and around the world, including Australia and Hong Kong. Perhaps the most meaningful location, however, was Pittsburgh. There, he set down roots, raised his family, and developed lasting bonds with neighbors. A lifelong athlete, Russ–nicknamed “The Flushing Flash” from his time as a track and field sprinter–was a devoted Pittsburgh sports fan and created lifelong memories with family at Pirates, Penguins, Steelers, and Pitt games.
Russ had a deep appreciation of the arts and culture. He was an ardent supporter of public broadcasting. He also loved live music, becoming a benefactor of the Manchester Craftsman’s Guild and Middle C Jazz Club, both of which were central to Pittsburgh’s and Charlotte’s vibrant jazz scenes. Along with his enthusiasm for music, Russ amassed an eclectic art collection of Japanese prints, intricate glasswork, and other pieces he acquired at galleries around the world. He also had a passion for collecting model trains, which embodied the technical mind and collector’s gene he possessed.
Ever the educator, Russ was always eager to share his love for art, music, sports, and other interests with everyone he met. And more often than not, he enjoyed doing so over a glass of wine from his beloved cellar.
Later in life, Russ became the proud dog-father to Marty, his beloved Corgi. They established a routine of morning walks and breakfast together. Marty and Russ were truly the best of friends.
Russ is survived by his partner, Jane Feltovich; children Margot Villanueva (Yesica) of Wake Forest, NC, Eric Feingold (Betty Blockinger) of Columbus, OH, and Meredith Feingold (Kenny Linderman) of Durham, NC; Jane’s children Kate Hughes (Cory) and Alex Feltovich (Hilary Mantel) of Pittsburgh, PA; brother Roger Feingold of Long Island, NY; former wife Rena Feingold of Pittsburgh, PA; and seven grandchildren–Abraham, Lincoln, Theo, Eli, Emmett, Penny, and Owen.
Visitation and a Celebration of Life will be held Monday, August 24, from 10:30am-12:30 pm at The Good Samaritan Funeral Home (3362 N Hwy 16, Denver, NC 28037).

My memory of you will always be when you came to Maine and spent time with me and my family at camp. I remember when you got down in the floor and played with my grandsons. I knew right then and there you were made to have grandchildren. You will be so missed. RIP until we meet again
I have fond memory of staying with Jane & Russ at there home in PA. I really didn’t know Russ that well but he made my stay very pleasant and made sure I got to the airport safely for my return home.. A real gentleman. All our family is so sorry for your loss. Memories are a Great healing for those left behind. I’m sure you All have many.
Russ was a lovely man. He was an expert in many areas but especially art. I enjoyed our conversations about art. He loved Jane and they enjoyed many trips and adventures. I loved to see their photos. Whenever I saw Russ, I would ask him to show me pictures of the newest grandchildren. You could see the pride on his face as he did. Russ and Jane always welcomed people into their home. Jim and I will miss Russ but have fond memories. Sorry for this considerable loss.
Although I only met Russ a few times, I also have fond memories of meeting Russ while in Pittsburgh the weekend of Katie and Corey’s wedding a few years ago. Earlier in the day of the wedding, Peter and I went to lunch with Russ and my sisters Nancy and Ellen. It was a wine bar. I was immediately impressed by his knowledge and love of wine, jazz music , art and much more. He was a very smart man. Russ adored Jane and life itself. He was a pure gentleman. You will be missed. Rest in peace.
To Jane, Katie, Alex and the rest of his entire family, may you find comfort in the memories and love you have in your hearts. Peter and I are so very sorry for your loss.
Wow…sorry to hear the passing of my classmate, and fellow member of Stuyvesant HS’s track team. It was a week ago I was sharing a photo with my youngest son that my mother has on her wall that shows “Feingold”, and myself running a race…great remembrance!!! Rest In Peace my friend, teammate, and classmate.
