Margaret “Peggy” Teixeira

Margaret “Peggy” Teixeira, 69, passed away on Sunday, February 8th, in Denver, North Carolina.

Peggy was born in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania (near Pittsburgh) on July 24th, 1956, to the late James and Margaret Battles. She spent her childhood and a portion of her adult life living in Aliquippa before residing in Houston, Texas and New Milford, Connecticut, where she ultimately settled for 22 years before moving to Denver, North Carolina in 2020.

After obtaining a bachelor’s degree in education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Peggy spent a short stint as a schoolteacher and often joked that teaching a classroom full of young children wasn’t for her. She also spent time as a realtor and was heavily involved as a volunteer at her local parishes as well as the public schools in Connecticut attended by her two sons. She eventually went back to work as a caregiver where she aided the elderly for an additional 15 years.

Peggy will be remembered for her kind heart, caring nature, fighting spirit, and ability to befriend anyone. She was a devout Catholic, an avid reader, and extremely proud of her Irish heritage. Despite living a gluten-free lifestyle (in case she never mentioned), she loved baking her famous Irish soda bread which she enjoyed sharing with family and friends.

Along with her parents, Peggy is preceded in death by two of her three brothers, Patrick and James.

Peggy is survived by her sons, Christian and Nick, daughters-in-law, Jessica and Vienna, granddaughters, Aria and Isla, and brother, Michael. She also leaves behind her sister-in-law, Gail, brother-in-law, John as well as her beloved Goldendoodle, Finn.

A Catholic Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, February 12th at 11:00 AM at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Denver, North Carolina.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, February 12th from 2:30 PM until 4:30 PM in the Event Center at the Twin Mills Club (Trilogy Lake Norman) in Denver, North Carolina.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance at ocrahope.org.

My prayers for Peggy’s family 🙏🏻 I am blessed to have been introduced to Peggy through mutual friends in her Denver, NC neighborhood. Although I only knew her a short time I am so glad that because of her faith in Jesus I will get to see her again in heaven. She fought hard and I never knew her to complain of her circumstances. That encourages me to be more like her.

To Peggy’s family, I was fortunate to have Peggy and Finn friends. Her positivity and infectious smile were always welcoming. I will miss her, but I know she is at peace and pain free now. Sending prayers to all of you and may her love and memories live on.
