Iris Landers Smith, age 94, of Denver, North Carolina passed peacefully on July 25th, 2026, at Cardinal Health and Rehabilitation of Lincolnton. Born in Burlington, North Carolina to Mr. Howard and Sara Landers. Iris worked for the Charlotte Hospital Authority and the United States Postal Service for most of her adult career. Iris had a love and affinity for children, dedicating her retired life to fostering and adopting children. Iris loved to volunteer, especially with Lincoln Charter School in her later years. She lived a life devoted to family, faith and serving others.
She is survived by her husband Gene Smith of Denver, and children; Donnie Ragan and wife Susan of Kannapolis, Christy Gordon and husband Doug of Denver, Rick Ragan and wife Tammy of Statesville and Keesha Miley and husband Joseph of Lincolnton, and her stepchildren Sherri Allen and Mark Smith. Also left to cherish her memory are her brother Jerry Landers and wife Bonnie and countless grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her son John Ragan.
The family will receive friends from 1-2 pm at Good Samaritan Funeral Home in Denver, North Carolina on Saturday, August 1st with a memorial service to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Humane Society of Lincoln County.
