Frank I. Byers, Jr., 79, of Newton, North Carolina, passed away on December 29, 2025, peacefully surrounded by his loving wife after a short bout with cancer.
He was born January 31, 1946, in Ridgway, Pennsylvania, to the late Frank I. Byers, Sr. and Mae E. (Shifflet). Frank later made North Carolina his home.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara L. (Anderson) MacLeod Byers, and her children: Jennifer (MacLeod) Brothers (Travis), of Hickory, NC, James MacLeod, of Newton, NC and Jonathan MacLeod, of Hickory, NC. He was a proud grandfather to Nathan Brothers and his fiancée Emma Winkler of Taylorsville, NC; Sarah Brothers and her boyfriend Carlos Rambal of Hickory, NC; and Eli and Kinsley MacLeod, both of Hickory, NC. Frank also leaves close family members including brother-in-law Charles Anderson (Patricia), sister-in-law Susan (Anderson) Rogers (Paul), and many cousins who remain part of the family circle that loved him deeply.
Frank was preceded in death by his only brother, William L. Byers; his son-in-law, Travis Brothers; and his brothers-in-law, Russell Anderson, Robert Anderson, and Paul Rogers.
For many years, Frank worked as a building maintenance contractor for Pantry, Inc. He had a lifelong passion for building and carpentry, whether he was constructing houses with Cloninger Construction or in his workshop. He was a skilled woodworker, who took great pride in creating furniture by hand, finding joy in working with wood and turning ideas into lasting works of craftsmanship.
Frank loved singing and listening to Southern Gospel and classic country music. He and his brother Bill grew up singing in church and on the local radio program, creating memories rooted in harmony, faith, and family… moments that stayed with him throughout his life.
His legacy endures in the craftsmanship he left behind, the music he loved, and the values he lived by. He will be remembered for the lasting impact he made on all who knew him. May his memory be a blessing to all.
As a member of Meadow Ridge Baptist Church, Frank requested in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the church’s Building Fund – a reflection of his faith and his desire to support the community he cherished.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2025, at Meadow Ridge Baptist Church, 1173 Zeb Haynes Road, Maiden, NC 28658. The family will receive friends beginning at 12:30 p.m., with the service to follow at 1:00 p.m.
The family has entrusted Frank’s care to The Good Samaritan Funeral Home, 3362 N Highway 16, Denver, NC 28037.
