It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of James ‘Jimmy’ Smith, a beloved family man and steadfast friend. Born on September 17th, 1955, he was a beacon of strength and endurance until his peaceful departure from this world on July 9th, 2025.
Jimmy will always be remembered for his witty personality and he was always prompt, and straight to the point to everyone he spoke to and had interactions with. His love for his family was unmistakable – his wife, children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces and nephews were his biggest joy. And we better NOT forget his sweet baby girl Bella, his precious dachshund dog. He loved her with all his heart. He was a man of few but impactful words, often reminding us with his favorite sayings, “do unto others as you would have done to you. You reap what you sow, and the saying he used the most, “Stupid should hurt”, lol. He truly lived by these principles in his everyday life.
He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, often willing to give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. He is survived by his loving wife, Cathy Smith, and his children, James ‘Jimmy’ Smith Jr., Krystal Smith, stepdaughter Tina Price, and his stepson Danny Anderson. Also mourning his departure are Jimmy’s two sisters, Brenda Snipes and Rhonda Poole. He was predeceased by his brother, Ronnie ‘Fuzzy’ Smith and his sister, Dianne Freeman.
Jimmy was a man of humble tastes. He relished in his favorite foods like seafood, shrimp and steak, quipping, “he loved him a good ol’ steak.” He enjoyed sipping on a Natural Light beer while devouring anything war book related, with his favorite music from Lynard Skynyrd, The Eagles, and CCR playing in the background. He entertained himself by watching WWE Wrestling, On Patrol Live, Gutfeld, The Five, and Fox News. He loved watching action movies mostly. One of his favorites was ‘Training Day’.
As a dedicated fan of the Carolina Pathers and Pittsburgh Steelers, he often had friendly debates about the teams’ performances. Jimmy loved shooting his guns and spending time in his garage, often joking about lack of interest in any exercise beyond that, remarking, “what is that?”
One of his greatest accomplishments included earning his degree in maintenance, which he put himself through college to achieve. This fortified his ethos of hard work and personal ambition.
James ‘Jimmy’ Smith was more than a sum of these parts. He was a loving husband, a supportive father, a caring brother, and an inspirational figure to all. He will be dearly missed, but his resilient spirit and warm heart will never be forgotten. Rest in peace, Jimmy.
