Billy Leonard Milburn, 82, of Denver, NC passed away on January 20, 2026 at the Carolina Caring – Robin Johnson Hospice House in Dallas, NC. He was born June 22, 1943 in Lincolnton to the late Oswald & Dorothy Milburn. Billy’s parents passed away when he was young and he and his siblings were taken in by the Rasar family.
Billy proudly served our country as a 2nd Class Radioman of the United States Navy from 1961-1965 and 2 years in the Naval Reserves. He was extremely proud of his time on the USS James C Owens which was an Allen M Sumner Class Destroyer. His ship was one of our protectors anchored on the coast of Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis
After serving, Billy was the local milkman and then began work at McClure Lumber Company in Charlotte where he eventually retired after 30 plus years.
Billy began losing his eyesight while in his 40’s and it progressed quickly throughout the years. He did not allow it to be his handicap. He was a Jack of All Trades and a Master Woodworker even while being legally blind. His disability gave him the opportunity to become an active member and supporter of the National Federation for the Blind and the Lincoln County Chapter of the Lion’s Club.
Billy started attending Webb’s Chapel Church again and it ignited his faith and he found a new family of support. He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and is now no longer visually impaired in his new body in Christ. His heart beats strong, his lungs flow free and his eyes are clear.
He was a loyal brother to Brenda Ervin (Donald-both deceased) and Faye Poovey (Carl-deceased).
He was a loyal father to Marty Milburn (Sharon) & Chad Milburn (Shelly). He was a loving grandfather to Stacey Rinesmith, Macy Milburn and April Milburn.
“Rest well Dad. We will see you on the other side…but not yet Okie Dokie!”
Special thanks go out to everyone who played a part in Billy’s life whether through friendship or assisting him during his times of need. Marty and Chad are forever grateful.
A Celebration of Billy’s Life will be held at 11AM on February 28th at Webb’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Denver, NC.
