Susan Reeks Klein, 76, of Denver, NC, died at her home in Denver, NC on July 22, 2025.
She was born on April 29, 1949 in Troy, NY to James Norman Reeks and Agnes Miriam (Sylvester) Reeks.
She is survived by her husband, Russell W. Klein; son, Justin R. (and Anne McDonald) Klein; grandchildren Makenzie, Aedan, Logan, and Savannah Klein of Mooresville; and her brother, James N. Reeks, Jr of Troy, NY.
Susan graduated from St. Agnes Girls School, Albany, NY in 1968. She attended Endicott Junior College in Peabody, Ma from 1968 to 1970 earning her associates degree. Following graduation she attended the State University of New York in Potsdam, NY from 1970 to 1971 where she majored in Art. Susan is also an Accredited Jewelry Professional with the Gemological Institute of America (GIA).
In September 1970, she met her husband Russ while at a college gathering place in Potsdam, NY which was also the location of his school, Clarkson University (aka Clarkson College of Technology). Their connection was fast, getting engaged in April 1971 and married on October 30, 1971 in Troy, NY. In 2021, they celebrated 50 years of marriage marking three consecutive “Klein” generations having achieved this milestone.
Susan was a lover of cats having had 10 different cats in her lifetime.
Susan’s creative passion was in the arts including painting, drawing, pottery, folk art, decorating, and murals. She loved to visit art museums. She was an art instructor for the mentally and physically handicapped while in Pittsfield, Ma. Dozens of her prized works decorate her home today.
The family will be hosting a “Celebration of Life and Art” at their home in September. Internment, not yet scheduled, will be in a family plot in Lake Placid, NY.
